The Climate of Kuwait: An Overview

Kuwait climate: average weather, temperature

Here, you can find everything about the climate of Kuwait, including information on what to do and how to dress in Kuwait. The climate is desert, moderated partly in the coastal areas by the warm waters of the Persian Gulf. If the rainfall is enough, the desert becomes green from the middle of March to April. From April to September, the heat is intense. For example, the temperature is 111 °F (44 °C) and sometimes 130 °F (54 °C) during the day. The average annual rainfall is only 1 to 7 inches (25 to 180 mm), especially in October and April; rainstorms can sometimes bring over 2 inches (50 mm) of rain in one day.

Winter of Kuwait

Oman’s winter is more pleasant. Between December and February, the weather is very mild. But sometimes, it may get cold at night (dropping to 0 °C (32 °F)). The record for the lowest temperature is -4 °C (25 °F), set in January 1964.

However, days are usually pleasantly warm and mild, with temperatures around 19-22 °C (66/72 °F) during the day. The sun often shines in winter, but cloudy days with rain are also possible. Kuwait usually does not snow. The temperature sometimes drops in the winter, and the weather gets cold, but there is no snow.

Spring of Kuwait

In spring, the weather is usually sunny and warm. The temperature increases quickly; in April, it is around 34 °C (93 °F). The lowest temperature every day, 29°F, rises from 53°F to 82°F, rarely decreasing below 45°F or over 88°F. Moreover, the wind that blows from the Arabian desert of Oman can increase the temperature and cause sandstorms.

Summer of Kuwait

Summer in Kuwait is extremely hot and is accompanied by warm winds, which blow from the interior part of the country. The high temperature recorded in summer and the capital was 52.1 °C (125.8 °F) in July 2020. The air humidity is very low (about 10%), and when it combines with the wind, it can bring dehydration. Fortunately, public places and resorts are well-equipped with air conditioning. In Oman, wind typically blows from the continent, so its weather is usually very hot and dry in summer.

Autumn of Kuwait

The weather is sunny and hot in autumn, and gradually, the temperature falls below 30 °C (86 °F) in November.

Humidity of Kuwait

The humidity is measured based on the dew point because it specifies the evaporation rate from the skin and cools the body. Lower dew points cause dry weather, and higher dew points cause humidity. The temperature usually changes significantly day and night, but the dew point changes slowly.

What to pack

In winter, you should have spring or autumn clothes, a shirt or thin clothes for warm days, a coat or a warm jacket for cold days, a scarf for windy days, and even an umbrella. In summer, you should bring light and loose-fitting clothes made of cotton or linen, a sun hat to stay cool from the heat, and a scarf for air-conditioned places. Women should not wear shorts and miniskirts outside of tourist places.

Kuwait’s climate has four separate seasons: long summers and short winters. Winter and spring have some rainy days. The average annual rainfall gradually decreases, and drought is a repeated phenomenon.
