The national carrier of the State of Qatar, Qatar Airways, is a significant success in the aviation sector. The airline started operating in 1994 as a tiny regional carrier operating a few routes. The airline was relaunched in 1997 under the leadership of His Highness the Father Emir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, who laid forth a goal to develop Qatar Airways into a prominent global airline with the highest standards of service and excellence.
Origin of Qatar Airways
Up until May 2002, when it withdrew, the State of Qatar was a joint-owner of Gulf Air alongside the Sultanate of Oman, the United Arab Emirates (only the Emirate of Abu Dhabi), and the Kingdom of Bahrain. Despite being a member of the airline for six months after the government declared its total withdrawal, it was the first of the three nations to leave the company in order to concentrate completely on its own carrier, Qatar Airways.
Global Achievements of Qatar Airways
In addition to 2011, 2012, and 2015, Qatar Airways is honored to have received four Airline of the Year awards from the annual Skytrax World Airline Awards. Around 18 million travelers worldwide participated in the study conducted by the premier global audit of the airline sector.
Qatar Airways, a multi-award-winning airline, was recognized at the renowned 2016 Skytrax World Airline Awards as having the Best Business Class in the World, Best Business Class Airline Lounge, and Best Airline Staff Service in the Middle East.
The announcement of the 2011 results ranking Qatar Airways as Airline of the Year was the culmination of the airline’s workforce’s unwavering commitment and labor under the direction of its Group Chief Executive, His Excellency Mr. Akbar Al Baker. Qatar Airways was previously ranked as the third-best airline in the world by Skytrax in 2010.
Foundation of Qatar Airways
The Qatari government founded Qatar Airways on November 22, 1993. In May 1994, it saw the first delivery to Amman. Sheikh Hamad Bin Ali Bin Jabor Al Thani headed the airline in April 1995 and had 75 employees under his command. Two Airbus A310s made up the fleet at this point, which flew to cities including Abu Dhabi, Bangkok, Cairo, Dubai, Khartoum, Kuwait, London, Madras, Manila, Muscat, Osaka, Sharjah, Taipei, Tokyo, and Trivandrum. Two former All Nippon Airways Boeing 747s were purchased from Boeing in 1995. In 1996, the airline purchased a used Boeing 747SP from Air Mauritius.
Conclusion
Beyond the existing industry best practices for managing fuel and the environment, Qatar Airways makes a genuine effort to secure a sustainable future for the company, its employees, and its communities. Qatar Airways and Educate A Child (EAC), a global education initiative started by Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser of Qatar, established a global collaboration in 2012. EAC is intended to alleviate the suffering of the 61 million children who are not in school worldwide and are, therefore, unable to receive a first-rate primary education.
